Primal Review Day 5 – Creativity.

The 7th chapter of Primal By Mark Batterson is amazing! It is about God ideas, not good ideas but God ideas:

Creativity is a gift that I really think we take for granted, it’s irritating when people say “I am just not creative,” or “nothing new under the sun” (That’s what I call an excuse.) Batterson has wrote some great material on creativity in this chapter.

“If God is infinitely creative and we are not just created in His image but called to be conformed to His image, then creativity isn’t optional. Creativity is a dimension of spiritual maturity. To become more like the Creator is to become more creative.”
Creativity is NOT optional!
So stop making excuses on why you don’t create, or try new thoughts and dreams that you have for your ministry. Why?
“The church ought to be the most creative place on the planet…In too many church circles, there is at best ambivalence toward creativity. And at worst there is downright animosity. We’re suspicious of creativity because creativity breeds change. And change threatens the status quo. It’s far easier to find something wrong with something new than to admit something is wrong with the old way of doing things.”
If you were to step out of your ministry for a minute and step back in the door what would you change? If you think of somthing then Go change it! Stop doing the same thing the same way all the time. That is boring and not creative, and probably why people are not coming.. Change it!!
“I have a conviction that gets me up early and keeps me up late: there are ways of doing church that no one has thought of yet.”
Ok pastors that steal sermons this is for you:
“Don’t try to be who you’re not. Be yourself. Don’t settle for the status quo. Challenge it. Don’t do it the way it’s always been done. Dar to be different. Nonconformity invites criticism, but that is the only option if you’re following in the footsteps of the quintessential nonconformist Jesus. God demands us to be unique!”
“I’d rather have one God idea than a thousand good ideas. Good ideas are good, but one God idea can revolutionize your life. One God idea can change the course of history.”
Sometimes people don’t know what to do and how to start the creative juices, Mark made this equation – Change of Pace + Change of Plans = Change of perspective
Go to a new location, slow down and just listen!
This book is really challenging me and causing me to grow a lot in my walk. People you are creative! Just think, have you ever lied? Probally so and that’s creative! Not a good example but true. We all have in us creativity! So take your creative self and go create a God idea, not a good idea…
