In reviewing Mark Battersons book Primal I was immediately hooked with this quote, “At the heart of the problem is the simple fact that Christians are more known for what we’re against than what we are for.”
This is such a true statement that our society puts on people. People at times do truly hate the church and we just sit back and blame them. The true question is what is wrong with the church?
He points out that we are not good living out the great commandment.
Mark then challenges us to figure out first what is wrong with us and to go back to that Primal place in our lives where all that mattered was God. When is the last time you did that, when is the last time you went back and remembered when “your heart broke for the things that break the heart of God?”
The next Chapter, is all about compassion… Asking the question what are you going to do about it? The correct answer has got to be something, but most people and yes, Christians just see it and walk away, but the ones that have made a difference in this world are the ones that saw it and decided to do something about it. Mark asks what about you?
“Never underestimate the power of compassion, no matter how small. It can change the course of history in ways that only eternity will tell.”
